Saturday, January 27, 2018 – SSSG Master Class Workshop This year, students have the opportunity of signing up for an optional master class with our expert Suzuki guest clinicians! This is a great chance to have an outside teacher give you some new ideas and perspectives and some general inspiration in the blah days of winter! The master class format is a semi-private lesson where students are scheduled with 3 or 4 students per hour, depending on the level. Students stay for the full hour and watch each other’s lesson. It’s a great way to learn from your peers as well as from your master teacher.
January 27 master classes will be scheduled throughout the day, working around the GYMC orchestra rehearsals.
Another exciting new activity we are adding this year is the opportunity to participate an Introduction to Bass Workshop that day from 2-4 pm with Jesse Dietschi! This workshop is open to violin, viola and cello students age 8 and up. Double basses will be provided by the school. Spaces are limited—only 6 students can participate in this class. We will take students on a first come, first served basis. Instruments for the introduction to bass workshop will be provided by The Sound Post. Shhhhh… you are the first to know… SSSG is planning to start a Suzuki bass program in the 2018/19 school year! Students of all ages will be able to join the program.
At 1:30 pm (and repeated at 3 pm), everyone is welcome to a free Suzuki Parent Talk in GYMC room 204.
Dr. Kate Einarson presents Why Suzuki works so well (and how to make it even better!)
The Suzuki method is emphasizes daily listening, standardized and sequential shared repertoire, and the close involvement of parents in their child's training. The fact that parents are so involved is particularly unique among music education methods, and an important part of what can make Suzuki training effective. This talk will discuss how the Suzuki method is designed to encourage student progress, and ways that Suzuki parents can help their children learn more easily!
Kate Einarson has been teaching music for over fifteen years, and earned a PhD studying musical development. She currently teaches violin and Suzuki Early Childhood Music for the Oakville Suzuki Association, and sits on the Board of Directors of the Suzuki Association of Ontario.
Kate completed her doctorate at the McMaster Institute for Music and the Mind studying the development of musical knowledge in infants and children, and the effects of music training on children's abilities. She also conducts research on Suzuki students as parents as the co-coordinator of the International Research Symposium on Talent Education.
