Mini-Institute Program in Violin, Viola, Cello & Bass

Junior Program in Violin, Viola, Cello & Bass

SOSI junior cellists

Students Eligible: Suzuki violinists, violists, cellists or bassists, Bks. 1–3

Program includes:

  • Daily individual lesson (4 students in a one-hour class)
  • Daily repertoire group
    Daily DrumFit (pre-reading), reading ensemble or orchestra
  • Tutti Play-in
  • Solo recital performance opportunity for everyone

Daily Options (You may choose up to two options):

  • NEW! Bass for String Students (students Bk. 2 and up)
  • Fiddling for Cellists (students Bk. 2 and up)
  • Fiddling for Violinists or Violists (students Bk. 2 and up
  • Flute for String Students (students Bk. 2 and up; If you are taking this option for the first time, choose Level 1; otherwise choose Level 2))
  • Music Through the Ages (students age 6 and up)
  • Percussion for String Students (students Bk. 2 and up)

Additional Daily Option: Operetta (You may choose Operetta as your only option or in addition to one or two regular Daily Options. The casting calls are held Sunday afternoon. Operetta rehearsals are held from 6 – 7:30 pm on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, from 5:30 – 7 pm on Wednesday, and 4 – 5 pm on Thursday. The performance is at 6:15 pm on Thursday.)

Junior Program students may also register for private Body Mapping lessons, accompanied by a parent. Space is limited so it is first-come, first-served. Accompanying parents and guardians who wish to enroll must fill out a separate Body Mapping application form.

  • Cellists have a daily Cello Choir class

Directed to advanced level students. Lessons given by distinguished Suzuki teachers particularly experienced with advanced level teaching. No audition required.

Students Eligible:

  • Violinists who have completed Suzuki Bk. 6
  • Violists who have completed Suzuki Bk. 5
  • Cellists who have completed Suzuki Bk. 6
  • Bassists who have completed Suzuki Bk. 6

Program includes:

  • Daily individual lesson (2 students in a one-hour class)
  • Daily advanced repertoire group
  • Advanced orchestra
  • Solo recital performance opportunity for everyone
  • Tutti Play-in for violinists, violists
  • Cellists have a daily Cello Choir class
  • Senior Concert ensemble performance

Daily Options (You may choose up to two options):

  • NEW! Bass for String Students
  • Fiddling for Cellists
  • Fiddling for Violinists or Violists
  • Flute for String Students (if you are taking this option for the first time, choose Level 1; otherwise choose Level 2)

BODY MAPPING: Senior students may also register for the Monday evening Body Mapping Seminar and private Body Mapping lessons, accompanied by a parent. Young Artist Program in Violin or Cello

This master class is open to senior violin or cello students, and provides instruction in a setting that moves towards traditional music college/university instruction while maintaining roots in Suzuki philosophy and pedagogy. It is expected that these senior players, who provide a role model to other participating students, will join enthusiastically in other Institute events.

Students eligible: Violinists who have completed Suzuki Bk. 8 or are working at Grade 9 RCM or higher, or Cellists who have completed Suzuki Bk. 7 or are working at Grade 8 RCM or higher. Admission to the YAP program is based on invitation following a successful video audition.
