Music Reading 2: From Known to Unknown

\Caroline Fraser

SAA Enrichment Course with Caroline Fraser (PERU)

“Music must not be approached from its intellectual, rational side, nor should it be conveyed to the children as a system of algebraic symbols or as the secret writing of a language with which he has no connection. The way should be paved for direct intuition.” Kodaly (1964)

This is a natural approach to music reading where the children learn by absorbing and by “doing”. Learning music reading in the Suzuki style means that musical notation will grow naturally out of the children’s playing abilities, allowing the children’s discovery of the written language to evolve directly from their own experiences.

In Music Reading 2, the instructor will demonstrate through on site student examples and videos, how Book Two Suzuki students can be guided to discover theoretical concepts first in known material and then in an unknown context. The students will learn to sight read the score in a natural and joyful manner.

See her website: www.carolinefraser.no

Prerequisites: Current SAA active membership; Completion of Every Child Can!

If you have not taken Music Reading 1,  please visit www.carolinefraser.no for detailed articles on Caroline's approach to music reading.

Hours: 10 hours

Registration: Saturday August 18 at 8:30 am. Course begins at 9 am and continues to Sunday at 4 pm.
