Adult Program in Piano

Junior Program for Adults

Students eligible: Adult Suzuki piano students, Bks. 1–3

Program includes:
  • Daily individual lesson (3 or 4 students in a one-hour class)
  • Daily repertoire (Bks. 1 & 2) or Duet Class
  • Daily pre-reading class (Bks. 1 & 2) or percussion (Bk. 3)
  • Solo recital performance opportunity for everyone
  • Ensemble performance
  • Play-ins

Daily Options: (you may choose up to two options)
  • Bass for adults
  • Organ for pianists (Bk. 2 and up)
  • Music Through the Ages
  • Percussion for adults (Bk. 2 and up)
Body Mapping: Adults may also register for the Monday evening Body Mapping Seminar and Body Mapping private lessons. Space is limited so it is first come, first served. Seminar Cost: $40

Music Technology: Adults may also register for the Monday evening Music Technology Seminar. This is at the same time as the Body Mapping Seminar so choose only one. Seminar Cost: $40

Pianists Suzuki Bk. 3 & above have the opportunity to participate in the Sonatina Jamboree (see Intermediate Program).

A Music Reading Assessment form, to be completed by your teacher, will be sent to you upon registration. Those students who read music at the junior level or higher, as assessed by their home teacher, will learn and study both the PRIMO and SECONDO parts of a duet and will polish and perform this piece in recital with a partner. Music will be forwarded as soon as a suitable partner is determined. Please register early to facilitate this process.

Intermediate Program for Adults

Students eligible: Adult Suzuki piano students, from Bk. 4 to Haydn Sonata in Bk. 5

Program includes:
  • Daily individual lesson (3 students in a one-hour class)
  • Daily percussion class
  • Daily Duet Class
  • Solo recital performance opportunity for everyone
  • Sonatina Jamboree
  • Ensemble performance
  • Play-ins

Daily Options: (you may choose up to two options)
  • Bass for adults (Bk. 2 and up)

Intermediate Program pianists have the opportunity to participate in the Sonatina Jamboree, playing one of the following movements in a recital with a string quartet: Clementi, Sonatina, Op. 36, No. 1 (choose 1 mvt.); Kuhlau, Sonatina, Op. 55, No. 1 (choose 1 mvt.); Clementi, Sonatina, Op. 36, No. 3 (Spiritoso); or Beethoven, Sonata, Op. 49, No. 2 (choose 1 mvt.). These pieces MUST BE VERY POLISHED and MEMORIZED.

Senior Program for Adults

Students eligible: Adult Suzuki piano students who know the complete Haydn, Sonata No. 48, or who are working at the Grade 8 piano level (RCM or Conservatory Canada) or above.

Program includes:
  • Daily individual lesson with Suzuki repertoire or other advanced repertoire of your choice (2 students in a one-hour class)
  • Daily String/Piano Chamber Ensemble Class or Duo Piano Class, depending on student registration
  • Daily percussion class
  • Solo recital performance
  • Chamber Music performance
  • Percussion ensemble performance
  • Play-ins

Daily Options: (you may choose up to two options)
  • Bass for adults
  • Music Through the Ages
  • Organ for pianists
  • Percussion for adults
In the String/Piano Chamber Ensemble Class, pianists will study and polish a piece of chamber music (working in collaboration with string students) under the experienced guidance of one of our faculty members.

In the Duo Piano Class, pianists will study and polish a piano selection for two pianos. Once registration forms are received, students will be paired according to age and level. Pre-formed groups are encouraged to apply. Please register early to facilitate the process of music selection.

Practice rooms will be reserved on Sunday for those students who wish to rehearse before their first String/Piano Chamber Ensemble or Piano Duo class. Please note that some students will have their first class on Sunday.
