The Revisiting Book 1 course is designed for violin and viola teachers who have registered a minimum of Unit 1 and have at least one year of Suzuki teaching experience. It aims to strengthen and update one’s teaching by approaching the repertoire and its concepts from a fresh perspective.
Julia Hardie will offer special insights for viola teachers.

Discussions cover the foundation of Book 1, including application of the Suzuki philosophy, teaching points, layering of skills, addressing challenges of the beginning student, and more.

The format of the course includes lecture, small group discussion, student observation, possible role-playing, and playing demonstration of the teaching points and concepts. Participants will receive an online questionnaire from the SAA, to be completed prior to the start of the course.

Everyone will need to bring a viola to the course. If you don’t have one, a rental instrument can be available.
Prerequisites: Participant must have completed/registered ECC! and Unit 1 (or Unit 1A and 1B) in Violin/Viola, taught at least one year, and have an active SAA membership. Auditing the course is not permitted.

Course Preparation: The Teacher Trainer may prepare a brief questionnaire to be sent out to class participants if time allows.

Hours: 15 hours of class time and 3 hours of observation. 100% attendance and completion of coursework and observations is required.

Registration: Sunday August 12 at 8 am. Orientation meeting begins at 8:30 am. Course begins at 9 am on Sunday and continues to Friday at 4 pm.

Cost: $435 CDN
